Today, Farrans (Construction) Limited is one the largest building and civil engineering contractor operating in Northern Ireland but in 1941 the company was no more than a small civil engineering company answering the call for airfields and emergency housing during the dark days of a World War. The firm’s origins underscore the tradition of service and commitment that has run through Farrans history to the present day.
After the War, Farrans was integral in the rebuilding efforts and continued to expand, acquiring subsidiary companies that specialised in various aspects of construction that the recovering economy required. Through 70 years of successful trading Farrans has remained true to our vision of providing our Clients with first class construction solutions and build quality second to none.
Farrans pioneered the use of ready-mixed concrete in Northern Ireland when it formed the Readyuse Concrete Company in 1954, this later evolved into Northstone (NI) Limited with the building, civil engineering company continuing to trade under the established Farrans brand.
Farrans now encompasses Civil Engineering, Utilities, Commercial Building, Farrans Homes and Farrans Healthcare Divisions which are ideally placed to provide integrated solutions to ever-changing markets both domestically and internationally. We have been valued members of joint ventures with other construction industry leaders in the delivery of major infrastructure projects both in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
In 1978 under the Northstone banner, Farrans were acquired by CRH plc which gave us the security and challenge of becoming part of a market leading global enterprise and provides a firm foundation for the onward development of the Company into new and emerging markets.
